We're not just consumers anymore, fam! Africa's AI market is projected to skyrocket from $4.5 billion in 2025 to a whopping $16.5 billion by 2030, a 27.42% annual surge! Imagine that, $1.5 TRILLION added to our economy if we play our cards right!
They are saying AI could generate up to 40 to 45 million jobs across the continent by 2035, with projections of 230 million digital jobs in Sub-Saharan Africa by 2030 alone. The African Development Bank and UNDP just launched a $10 Billion AI Initiative to make this happen, focusing on healthcare, agriculture, education, and finance. We've got 16 African countries launching national AI strategies, Google is rolling out AI in 13 local languages, and giants like Google and Microsoft are pumping resources into talent development right here in Nigeria. South Africa is leading in AI infrastructure, and Kenya is innovating with mobile-first applications.
This is pure, unadulterated potential! Our youth, our innovators, our future are ready to lead.
But here’s the kicker, the bitter truth we always face: how can we truly harness this incredible AI wave when:
- Kenya is battling deadly floods due to neglected drainage infrastructure, despite billions allocated, making a mockery of urban planning and accountability?
- Nigeria is grappling with intensified jihadi attacks, persistent insecurity, and skyrocketing fuel prices because of a 'politicised' approach to governance, forcing our brightest minds to seek greener pastures?

We talk about building AI factories and becoming tech hubs, but we can’t even reliably power our homes or move goods efficiently.
