The Scribes of Truth and the Digital Wilderness
Now, in those days, when the voice of the people was stifled and truth was oft veiled, there arose in the land scribes, men and women mighty in the wielding of the pen, and fearless in their proclamations, whose words cut through the king’s propaganda like a sharp sword.
One was David, the son of Hundeyin, known for uncovering the secrets of the mighty and shining a piercing light upon the darkness of corruption and state malfeasance. He walked as an exile in a far country, for the king’s men and their shadowy agencies sought his life, for his words were as fire upon their wicked deeds and inconvenient truths, broadcasted for all to see.
And the other was Fisayo, the son of Soyombo, a voice for the oppressed and a relentless seeker of justice. He moved among the people, chronicling their woes and exposing the iniquities of the rulers, though he was oft threatened and watched by those loyal to the king, and his freedom was ever at peril.
And there was also Dele, the son of Farotimi, a scribe of sharp wit and an advocate for the rights of man, whose words were as thunder against the misrule of the powerful. He penned scrolls of great wisdom, revealing the intricacies of the kingdom’s laws and how they were twisted for the gain of the few. And for his words, he was oft called to the king’s courts, and his scrolls became sought after, even from beyond the kingdom’s borders. Verily, he returned from time to time, to speak unto the multitude on the television screens and the scrolls of YouTube, dissecting the king’s governance and the machinations of power.
And a certain maiden, known as @firstladyship whose fingers were swift upon the tablet of communication, did amplify their words, crafting short parables and visual chronicles upon the Tik-Tok scrolls, that even the unlettered might comprehend the plight of the kingdom and the hidden truths. Her influence was great among the youth, and her digital sermons did spread like wildfire, causing many to open their eyes.
And the people said, as they gathered in their digital assemblies, known as “WhatsApp groups” and “Telegram fellowships,” “Behold, these sons and daughters of ink speak truth to power, even unto their own peril, though the king’s court despises them and their words are as thorns in the flesh of the mighty, revealing their nakedness before all the tribes of the land.”
For their voices resonated through the “wireless networks,” reaching every corner of the kingdom, and their pronouncements were shared upon the “Tik-Tok scrolls” and the Twitter parchment, where the young and the old beheld their wisdom and their courage. Though the king’s men sought to silence them by decree and by force, labelling them purveyors of “fake news” and “enemies of the state,” and sometimes, they even sought to unplug the great internet cables that bound the people together.
