Back in my day, we didn't care if you were Igbo, Hausa, or Yoruba; if you could run your business well in Ladipo market, or if your mum's restaurant in Ajao Estate served the best abacha, that's all that mattered! Nobody asked you for your state of origin before you played street football or shared a plate of food. My neighbour for Mafoluku, na Calabar man, him wife na Yoruba. Their children dey speak all languages, and we dey celebrate Christmas and Eid together like proper family. That's the real Nigeria, abeg! We need more of those inter-ethnic success stories, not this drama that divides us.
See, for Nigeria to move forward, we need to focus on what brings us together, on competence and progress, not on these distractions. That's why when I see movements like the Obi presidency, where people are pushing for competence over ethnicity, it gives me hope.
