My people, I've had it! Every time I open this forum, it's either 'Canada PR Timeline 2026' or 'Tier 4 Visa Success Story (with vawulence)'! Honestly, we are tired of the Japa threads, but can you blame us when the economic vawulence is beating us black and blue? If you see somebody carry big bag, just know na bye-bye o - them don checked out be that, and their LinkedIn profile is probably getting a mentorship review session right now. The mood is officially on the floor! 🤦🏽♀️
Let’s forget all the economic jargon the CBN people are giving us. The real gist is simple: your Naira salary is now just small change.
The Exchange Rate Gist: The dream of ₦2000 to $1 is looking less like a bad joke and more like a prophecy every day. While the rates are currently hovering around ₦1,440 to ₦1,460 per $1 in the black market, the way this thing is depreciating, we are just watching the countdown timer. Even the all-time high of ₦1,717.50 to $1 we saw late last year is just a reminder of how fast the madness can happen.
School Fees Will Finish Us: Listen, if you have a child in a foreign school, you are a certified Oga! Ten years ago, a $ ext{ extless} ext{GBP}10,000 ext{ tuition fee was around } ext{ extless} ext{NGN}2 ext{ million}$. Today? You are now calculating with close to ₦15 million for the same fee. E shock you? It's making our savings look like pocket money.
Salaries are a Scam: The real pepper is in the professional salaries. I read somewhere that if you adjust for the exchange rate and inflation, a Nigerian professor who was earning the equivalent of over $2,000 in 2009 is now effectively earning about $35 a month! $35!! How will the children of the poor breathe, abeg?
Rent and Food is War: You can't even escape it locally. Every landlord in Lagos now has a dollar mindset. They will quote you rent in Naira, but the increase is based on the dollar rate and inflation. Meanwhile, over 56% of household spending is going to food! We are literally eating all our money.
The Japa Strategy is Now the Survival Strategy
People are not Japa-ing for adventure anymore; they are running away from the vawulence. The threads are no longer about 'If I Japa,' they are about 'How I Japa.' Our comment section is now a full-blown career consulting service:
- "Pls, I'm a Project Manager with 3 years experience, can I DM you for a CV review? My wife and kids are counting on me."
- "Who knows a good immigration lawyer that is not an arm-and-a-leg type? US visa rejected twice, trying UK skilled worker."
If you are still in this country, you are a warrior. If you are preparing to check out, please share your tips. We are all holding hands and praying to the Visa gods. May the airport tarmac be kind to all of us!
What's the most ridiculous price hike you've experienced because of this dollar vawulence? Drop your gist!
