When terrorists abduct schoolchildren in broad daylight, the Nigerian government responds with silence. And our beloved pastors? They respond with… prayer rallies. Because nothing says “we’re serious about national security” like holding hands in a megachurch while chanting “fire, fire, fire!”
Remember the Goodluck Jonathan years? Back then, Tunde Bakare was thundering from the pulpit, calling out corruption and demanding accountability. Enoch Adeboye was never shy about dropping “prophetic warnings” that conveniently doubled as political commentary. They were bold, vocal, and oh-so righteous. Fast forward to today, and suddenly the firebrands have discovered the soothing comfort of neutrality. Apparently, silence is golden, especially when it protects your access to power.
These are the same pastors who love to compare Nigeria to Israel. They preach about the “chosen nation” and how we should emulate it. Yet, somehow, they forget that Israel’s survival isn’t built on endless night vigils, it’s built on the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, Mossad, IDF, and now the Iron Beam. In other words: technology, intelligence, and actual defense systems. But sure, let’s keep pretending that shouting “Holy Ghost fire!” is equivalent to missile interception.
The hypocrisy is breathtaking. These pastors wield enormous influence, millions of followers, airtime across TV and radio, and political clout that could shake Aso Rock. But instead of calling out the president’s inertia, they retreat into the safety of pulpits, declaring that “God will fight for us.” Translation: we’re too scared to confront power, so let’s outsource responsibility to heaven.
Cowardice has never looked so pious. They’ll gladly condemn Israel’s enemies from the pulpit, but when it comes to Nigeria’s terrorists, they suddenly develop spiritual laryngitis. After all, why risk offending the government when you can keep the tithes flowing and the seats filled?
And let’s not forget the irony: these pastors love to flaunt their private jets, their sprawling estates, and their VIP security details. Yet they tell ordinary Nigerians to “trust God alone” for protection. It’s almost poetic, if hypocrisy were an Olympic sport, Nigerian pastors would be bringing home the gold every year.
So yes, while Israel builds lasers to shoot down rockets, Nigeria builds prayer camps to shoot down accountability. And the pastors, Bakare, Adeboye, Jerry Eze and their peers remain the generals of this holy charade, bravely fighting terrorism one hallelujah at a time.
