A woman, Adejoke Popoola, has confessed to some truly evil acts – not only selling her own children but also stealing nineteen others! Nineteen, people! It's like something out of a Nollywood movie, but sadly, this one is real life.
According to the reports, this woman was nabbed and she just opened up like a book, detailing how she operated. She even explained the syndicate she was part of. Can you imagine the level of desperation or wickedness that would make a mother sell her own flesh and blood? And then to go ahead and abduct nineteen other innocent children? My goodness, the heart of man is indeed desperately wicked, who can know it?
The story alleges that she would target vulnerable mothers, sometimes even posing as a helper or offering financial assistance, only to snatch their children when they least expected it. And her own babies? The audacity! The lack of conscience to go through pregnancy and birth, only to then put your offspring on the market like mere commodities. It truly beggars belief.
This incident brings up so many questions, doesn't it? What happens to these children after they are sold? Who are the buyers? What are they used for? Are they trafficked for labour, for ritual, or for illegal adoption? These are the dark corners of our society that we often pretend don't exist, but they are very much alive and thriving, unfortunately.
It also makes you wonder about the background checks, or lack thereof, in some of these 'adoption' processes that happen outside legal frameworks. There are so many desperate couples looking for children, and these criminals exploit that vulnerability, turning a profit from human misery. It's a vicious cycle.
