Na so I just dey read say Mama Peace, I mean, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, don launch this $1bn social programme, HOPE-SP. Dem say na to empower vulnerable Nigerians and move them from palliatives to self-reliance. My people, when I hear 'billion dollars', my ear go just stand like antenna for Satellite dish.
E be like say una don hear this kind talk before, abi? From SURE-P to N-Power, down to all these other 'empowerment' schemes wey dem dey launch every other day. Na how many of them truly lift people out of poverty? Or na just another avenue for 'boys are not smiling' to collect their share and leave the poor masses still clutching their empty bowls?
They talk say na 'self-reliance'. Chai! Nigeria wey our industries don die, small businesses dey struggle with high cost of fuel and electricity, no good roads, no stable security. Na where dem wan make these vulnerable people get their raw materials? Na who go buy their products? Or na just another way to share some token money, snap pictures, and then everybody go just go back to square one?
And this 'palliatives to self-reliance' talk dey always vex me. You give person fish today, tomorrow you say 'go and catch your own fish' when the river itself don dry up. Na who dey design these policies gan gan? Na person wey understand the real struggle of mama market for Ojuelegba or papa farmer for Benue state?
I just dey wonder, this $1bn, e go reach the grassroots true true? Or e go just enter some 'long throat' pockets and remain history, just like many others before it? We need accountability, my people. We need to see concrete results, not just fancy names and big figures.
What una think? This HOPE-SP, na hope for real or another one-chance for the masses? Let's talk about it.
