OAU don drop better honour for LAUTECH VC, and everybody dey wonder why
My people, you see as OAU just salute Prof. Razaq Kalilu for the art, scholarship and leadership wey e don bring? Na the kind thing wey make us dey shout wo! for the forum. The ceremony was no be small thing – the whole campus dey shine like Naija nightlife when the DJ drop that classic Afrobeat groove.
Why the hype?
- Artistic vision – Kalilu no just sit for office, e dey push for creative programmes wey dey give students platform to showcase music, drama and visual arts.
- Scholarship drive – Under e tenure, LAUTECH see 30% increase in research grants and scholarships for under‑represented students.
- Leadership style – E dey run the university like say e dey comot body from every bureaucracy, making decisions fast and with confidence – the kind sure guy we all respect.
The OAU council said the honour reflects “a partnership that transcends rivalry, fostering a unified academic culture across South‑West Nigeria.” I no go lie, the speech get pepper – e talk about unity, culture and future, but the underlying vibe be say we still dey chase recognition like a child chasing the last packet of chin chin at market.
My two cents
We need more of these cross‑university recognitions, but we also must ask why we still dey celebrate individuals while the system still dey choke many brilliant minds with red‑tape. The uncomfortable truth? Even with all the accolades, most students still comot body for the classroom because they cannot afford tuition, and the accolades remain a glossy cover for deeper structural problems.
So, my sure guys, make we celebrate the win, but also use am as a call to fix the gaps. Otherwise, all the honours become just another shiny trophy on a dusty shelf.
