Ugo Egbujo writes…

That speech is baa la blue baloney

Low spirited, tired, worn.

Out of touch. Tone deaf. Ineffectual

Sounded like something prepared for his one year anniversary.

A hurriedly written jambled rigmarole after the Oro and other janjaweed tactics failed

He didn’t bother to appease the protesters

He didn’t make a single policy change

He didn’t bring any thing to the table

My guess is

He did it to fulfill all righteousness for foreign observers

He still trusts in the willy and coarse hands of his agents who believe the protesters are either hired hands of vindictive political opponents and sore losers or idle folks seeking gratuitous political mischief.

In between the lines of drudgery, it’s obvious he has confidencev in his goons to muzzle and suppress protests

Nothing in that speech indicated that he watched the happenings of the past week with pain and empathy

He talked about bigotry and division, yet he is still harboring the motormouthed biigot called Onanuga as a presidential adviser

He talked about the right to protest yet he is keeping Wike, who said protesters were banned in Abuja and referred to them as armed robbers.

The president isn’t t just arrogant, he is utterly disdainful of the protests and protesters. His speech reveals that he considers them nothing better than inauspicious nuisance

He churned out too many half truths and ignored hard truths

The trumpeted increase in national revenue has favoured the president and his cronies in power. He has a new presidential jet bought with hundreds of billions. But the quality of life of poor families saddled with unbearable food prices has become wretched.

Tinubu beats his chest about a new minimum wage. Tinubu’s new minimum has less purchasing power than the old minimum wages of Buhari, Jonathan and Obasanjo.

Tinubu’s party has been in power for 9 years. But Tinubu, who for the last ten years appropriated for himself the title of leader of that party now wants deny to actual responsibility.

The speech was a piece of pretty nonsense. Full of regurgitated and nauseating fluff. Bereft of conviction and repentance.

He will continue his overseas medical tourism

He will keep his bloated and wasteful cabinet

He will remain incapable of finding the corrupt Yahaya Bello and prosecuting Betta Edu

He will retain his inclination to awalokanism in making choice appointments

He will tweak nothing.

Fuel prices will keep rising because the naira is hopelessly weak against the dollar. The government has opened the gates for the now importation of basic food.

The president is sleepwalking. His men are grandstanding.

The distribution of freebies has failed. Haphazard policies have left hopelessness. The co option of traditional and religious rulers for political fire brigade failed. The failure to conceive a vision and pursue it with honesty has left the people frustrated.

The country needs a bold new direction. The country needs a Political class whose attitude, lifestyle and policies will speak purposefulness.

Tinubu and his governors are running on Business As Usual mode

They dont get it.

This tired speech will only confirm the fears and doubts of the protesters

Our leaders are truly aloof and the protesters are talking to the deaf

Somebody should wake the president up

The youths are at a different townhall and this Bala blue speech will only infuriate them.

The speech failed in setting clear targets that his government should be measured by.

    1. What is the inflation target by year end?

    2. How much FDI are the government targeting this year?

    3. What is the unemployment rate target this year?

    4. What is the plan to cut fiscal deficits?

    5. What is the GDP growth targets for this year? (Not estimates)

And where are they currently on meeting this targets

Very spot-on rachelzane Let me also add

      - What’s the plan to cut food inflation to single digits?

      - Why is insecurity still raging, what are the plans to curb insecurity in the North to enable farmers safely get back to their farms?

      - What is happening with the NNPCL’s PMS supply chain, and what are the plans to resolve it?

      - What’s the plan to stabilize the FX markets beyond short term fixes?

      - What’s the plan to boost agriculture productivity?

The obvious thing here is that the Tinubu administration thinks he is battling with his party people. He thinks people are out to frustrate his government meanwhile he has done nothing to show that he is capable of leading the country.

Probably if Political leaders learn to run by OKRs and KPIs they would be able to accountable to the people. Tell the people what they are actually working and how their outcome should be measured to tell their performance by within a period of time.

Nigerian politicians must eschew this “Master-Servant” mindset. Politics must be about the people.

I like how everyone is talking about “the substance” here. Aproko nation forum brings the difference indeed.

Just to add a little; If there are no measurable and realistic KPIs to hold the government accountable, they will just continue cruising until the end of their tenure with nothing tangible to show while they loot the country by all means.

The speech is lacking accountability in all aspects.

      politico

      1. His speech lacked Hope

      2. His speech lacked Empathy

      3. He read out a Leaked Speech

      4. He did not reduce his Cabinet

      5. He did not address the Hunger

      6. He did not address his Wastefulness

      7. He did not address his Lavish Spending

      8. He did not address the Looting of the so-called Palliatives

      9. He did not address insecurity

      10. He did not address inflation

      11. He did not address the FX issue

Nothing tangible to make out of the speech

The man read plenty things without saying anything. No surprises. The speech already leaked before the reading. I’m sure it was recorded sef
